Social media update

My group and I decided that we should start to use our twitter page (to make our band seem more realistic). Laura added a bio, our location, and put in a link to our website so that we are more connected, making it easier to get recognised. We also decided to write some tweets. Here is what was updated with regards to our information and what was tweeted:

Tonight, we also decided to create a Facebook page (which can also be linked to our band website). We added our band logo as our profile picture and stuck to the same theme as our Twitter page. We added a 'send email' button onto our page as well as the events that we put on our website (the gigs that we made up for our band).

Here is a link to the page for our Facebook page:

First shooting schedule for final music video

As we are beginning to film our final music video on Wednesday we have completed a shooting schedule which includes all the shots we are going to film, the equipment, probs and costumes we will use, the time and place we are doing it.

Creating a Twitter account

Today my group and I decided to make a twitter page for our band as we could link it on our band website.

We decided to put our profile picture as our band logo and set the header as a picture that we had previously from when Elsie went 'exterior location scouting'. We decided to use a photo where there is some red incorporated in it, so as it fits with the red in our logo.

Here is the link to the Twitter page that we made:

CD ascetic inspiration

Today our group started thinking about what design we might want to use for our band's CD cover. Laura found some inspiration from this image of a Deathly Hallows symbol from Harry Potter and thought that it would help us create something for the cover of our own CD. Here is the image that Laura found:

Elsie went out for exterior location scouting and took some photos that we also began to use on the website, we thought that this would be a good aesthetic and theme to stick to for our band. Therefore, we thought that if we made our own symbol/artistic picture (such as this one of the Deathly Hallows) but one that linked to our band and with our theme, we could do something with it like what has been done in this symbol.
By this, we mean that we thought about after making our own symbol for the front cover, we would then fill it with one of our own photos (such as a picture of the trees with the sky in the background), like what has been done in this one, apart from with a galaxy design.

We thought that this would be a simple, yet artistic CD cover that would be different to other ones, as it will be a lot more exciting than just having a photo of some trees as the cover.

Later, if we stick with this idea, we will probably start thinking about designing our own symbol and how we want it to look.

Developing merchandise and updates to our website and CD cover inspiration

Today we decided that we should update our merchandise so it would be more professional. We thought that it would be a good idea to use the falcon from the bands logo to show a consistency in the bands design and branding. Instead of using cartoon templates of clothing we should used plain real clothing to make it more realistic. Elsie found some images of pieces of clothing and then edited our falcon onto them.

Here is what they look like:

Elsie then added these to the website and we decided that the t-shirts should cost £15 and the jumpers £20 as they are usually higher in price. We added 'Price' and 'Buy Now' buttons next to each one and decided on their placing and colouring. Furthermore, we added two headers 'T- Shirts' and 'Jumpers' in a pastel orange as it matched our aesthetic.

Also, 'Home' and 'Gigs' pages were updated with tour dates and where they would be taking place. We decided that we would choose small gigging places as our band is not fully established but is just starting in their career, therefore, naming smaller places of performing would make more sense then an arena.

Finally, Elsie found some artwork of a nature based piece on animals and thought that it would fit our tree theme shown across our website perfectly. This inspired us so we decided that Laura should draw a version with a falcon. We think that we could use this as part of our albums front or back cover.

Character proflies - Protagonists

Exterior Location Shots

Here are some exterior location shots we will use mostly for the chorus:
Exterior Location Shots Music Video by Slidely Slideshow

Website

Today we started creating our website on wix.com. We made sure to create an email for our band so in the web address it would be more professional with it saying our bands name. The photos chosen for the background are from extra shots Elsie took when she went to take the interior location shots.

We decided to tile the photos used for the background from the pages ABOUT - SHOP as it makes the pictures clearer and professional. But kept the HOME and CONTACT backgrounds the same as they fitted the website nicely as they were. Furthermore, in the header design we put our bands name Firelight Falcons and their company's logo directing the audience straight away to the bands name and who they are signed to.

Also, we learnt how to embed videos, so we changed the video link to our song lyrics as that will be our bands 'single'. For the 'ABOUT' we added a picture of Alex, however, we will change the picture at a later date so it looks more formal and professional.

Finally, we made changes to the template we used given by the site WIX by getting rid of anything unnecessary, adding the link 'SHOP' so we can sell the merchandise we have designed and made changes to the original templates default setting by putting dark transparant tiles underneath any writing we will do to make it clearer.

Narrative for music video

Here is the overall narrative for our music video:

  • The music video begins at a sleepover where the girl is telling a 'spooky' story to her friends. Then the camera zooms into the book and it jump cuts to the story told.
  • The main girl opens a tin which includes a picture of the boy then she packs, writes a note then leaves home to find the boy and it is raining outside.
  • The narrative cuts back to the sleepover scene and the girls friends are teasing her and then they drown and rip up the photo of the boy and throw it away.
  • The video then cuts to the band playing for some of the chorus then for the other part of the chorus it goes back to the sleepover.
  • It then switches back to the story being told and the main girl is looking around where she meets the boy and cannot find him. Instead she finds a flannel shirt belonging to him. She begins to worry and makes her way home and clutches hugs the shirt hoping nothing bad has happened to him.
  • The narrative then cuts back to the sleepover to the girl telling the 'spooky story'.
  • Suddenly it cuts back to the main girl but she is going mad with stress and worry.
  • Finally it goes back to the sleepover scene and the candles are blown out to signify the end.

Booking equipment and planning to start filming

We have decided to start some of the filming on Wednesday the 11th next week after school. We are going to start filming the part of the music video that we are doing at my house, including the close-up shots of the candles at the beginning of our music video, the parts where we are all at the 'sleepover', the parts in which we have to lip syncing, and the parts where Elsie's character is getting angry and throwing things (this is where the music starts to get faster).  We decided to film this part after school as we don't need it to be lighter outside.
This means that when we come to filming some of the outdoor shots, we are doing it on a weekend (we decided upon Saturday the 14th) as then we will have more time to shoot when it is lighter.

For these filming days we decided to book the following equipment:

  • A DSLR camera
  • A tripod (we booked one which can extend to be taller, in case we need it for a bigger variation of shots).
  • A shoulder mount for keeping shots steady if the camera needs to move (such as when we are on the bed in the music video and the camera crane's around the room).

Storyboard

Here is our finished storyboard for our final music video, it includes each shot, camera movement/angle, and the lyric in which they coincide with.

Interior location scouting

I have taken some pictures of my bedroom for the interior scouting as this is where the sleepover will be taking place in our video, and is the bedroom of the main girl in the 'spooky' story being told.

Here is what the bed that we will be using looks like:

We are choosing to film the sleepover in my room as we needed a larger bed so that we could easily fit three people on. Also, we decided that my room was most typical of a teenage girls room which fits with our aesthetic for the sleepover.

Props

The probs we are thinking of using include:
A globe, which we will be using in the chorus of the song, when the lyrics "ugly is the world were on" are used, demonstrating how we are matching the visuals to the lyrics as stated in Goodwin's Theory. We also thought that this was a good globe to use as it is more 'vintage' looking than other ones we had seen therefore, we though that it would go better with the 'spooky' element to our music video, rather than a brightly coloured globe.

Secondly, this is the top that we are planning to use to be the clothing of the male character, after he has been killed and the female protagonist finds it in the woods. We chose a flannel shirt because it might make it easier for the audience to understand that it is supposed to be the shirt of the male character (It looks more masculine).

Mood board

We decided to create a 'mood board', by adding pictures of some of our most iconic ideas for our final music video. This helped us get more to grips with how we want the music video to look and how we want to portray the 'spooky' feeling to it along with the 'typical teenage girl sleepover' style at the beginning.

Here is a look at what we have created:

As you can see, we've added things such as the candles that we plan to show first in the music video and possibly them being blown out at the end of the music video. We've also shown a picture of a handwritten note which is something that is left by the girl. Another thing that we added was a picture of a torch (which adds to the 'spooky' feel with regards to the lighting) as well as an outdoor location where there are trees (where the girl finds the boys shirt on the floor). The broken heart represents the story in which we have based our music video around, and the book and cat are just some other things we may add into the quick cuts of the video.

Costumes

Today, me and my group decided that Elsie should play the lead role in the music video, as she is the one who we decided would be doing the 'story telling' within the verses of the song.
With regards to the costumes during the sleepover part of the narrative, we decided that we are going to go for the more stereotypical approach and are going to be wearing a more informal and comfy dress code. Therefore, we came to the agreement that we will be wearing onesies, as shown below:

However, we decided that for the serious narrative Elsie should wear something more formal, so she decided upon this black and white dress. We wanted to do this so as the audience are able to recognize that there is a contrast between the different narratives within our music video.

Evolution of our band logo

Today we completed our band logo which Laura started by drawing a falcon in Paint. When it came to the colouring Laura suggested that we added oranges and reds as it fits into the theme of fire, which ones again reflects our bands name.

Here is the complete drawing Laura did:

Then Elsie had the idea to make it look more like a logo with a red background circle shape behind it with a yellow outline.

Here is the development of it:

Finally, we had to think of the typography on the logo. I did some research and sent some ideas of what we could use. Here were some options that I thought would look good with the falcon drawing:

Font choice 1

Font choice 2

Font choice 3

Font choice 4

We all decided that we liked font choice 2 the best. Therefore, Elsie tried to find a font most like it and she chose Kristen ITC. However, then we had to decide on its placement.

Option 1

Option 2

Option 3

We came to an agreement that we like it inside the main red circle at the bottom. Here is our final logo:
